BEGINS MAY 30th 2009
The Santa Rosa Kaiser Physical Therapy Department
Invites you to attend
The Anatomy of Touch
The Skeleton and Joints, An Overview
This 16-hour course combining lecture, demonstration and lab is designed especially for working manual therapists and movement specialists (PT, PTA, OT, CMT, DC, DO, MD, LAc, Feldenkrais Practitioners, Pilates, Dance and fitness instructors) who want to deepen their palpatory skills and gain foundational knowledge of applied anatomy and biomechanics.
The course will begin with a one-day (six-hour) workshop that will survey the skeleton and major joints in the context of basic arthrokinematic and biomechanical principals. This will be followed by four 2-½ hour evening classes that will cover the major skeletal and joint structures: (1) Cranium, cervical spine, and thoracic spine; (2) Lumbar spine, sacrum, and pelvis; (3) Upper extremities; (4) Lower extremities.
The primary focus will be on deepening skill in being able to clearly
(& comfortably) palpate, identify, and perceive various qualities of movement in relevant structures. The emphasis of the class will be on developing foundational skills. As one’s palpatory skill and precision mature and as one works with a specific intention, technique develops spontaneously.
